We're Off To See the Wizard!

Thanks to Cousin Lizzy for hooking us up with her Dorothy costume . . . and to Nana for the Ruby Red . . . . crocks! Slippers are on the way soon!

Okay my child is obsessed!!! With the Wizard of Oz! This all began several weeks ago when Nana began auditions for the drama clubs spring production. She brought the movie over to see if Lucy would even like parts of it. Thinking she was a cartoon-aholic I wasn't expecting her to watch more than 5 minutes of it. Oh boy was I wrong. The first time it began to play she sat in my lap, eyes wide, mouth hanging open. . . . it was love at first sight! She has turned everything into her life into oz-like activities. I just can't tell you enough how fascinated she is by the movie. I am usually Auntie Em or the "Scrarcrow" as she says it, and as soon as any visitors walk through our door they become a character. And I'm not talking like for a second she calls you a characters name . . . oh no! You are that character and you will be that character for the rest of the day. You lose your real name and become another identity all together. She has the songs, the dances, the lines even, completely memorized! It's amazing. She isn't one bit freaked out by the wicked witch or the flying monkeys (which still scare me a little).

I know all you super moms out there who strictly limit your child's TV time are shaming me right now . . . but I don't care. Of all the movies for a child to love this is the best. A classic and a childhood right of passage. As much as I may hate to find myself singing "If I only had a brain" lyrics in the shower, I'm still thrilled to see her little imagination come to life each time she watches it or acts it out in the middle of the living room.

Great news! She is in my 3 & 4 year old dance class which means she also gets to be a good witch dancer and a little bear dancer in the drama clubs spring production of WIZARD OF OZ!!! She has come to terms with being a "Baby Ballerina" as she calls it, but she keeps telling me "Mommy next time I gonna be Dorothy!"
